Epic rant about Israel: You’re doin’ it wrong

From a Letter to the Editor at the Taipei Times:

“Melamed’s piece contains blatant falsehoods.

UN officials have not found rockets in UN schools…”

Which sounds pretty authoritative, until one comes across this United Nations press release from July 22, 2014:

“UNRWA CONDEMNS PLACEMENT OF ROCKETS, FOR A SECOND TIME, IN ONE OF ITS SCHOOLS”

Ya know, if you’re gonna accuse others of blatant falsehoods, ya might wanna get the facts straight yourself…

This commenter wrote something which caught my eye:

I have a feeling that Mr. Melamed’s deep-seated emotions have prevented him from seeing how much Mr. Goren wish for the continuous existence of Israel.

Uh, no. Mr. Goren made his “wish for the continuous existence of Israel” quite clear:

Jewish people have every right to live in Palestine, but the State of Israel has no more international legal right to exist than the PRC has to invade and annex Taiwan.

Reporting: You’re doin’ it wrong

A recent correction from the Associated Press:

In stories published June 3 and June 8 about young children buried in unmarked graves after dying at a former Irish orphanage for the children of unwed mothers, The Associated Press incorrectly reported that the children had not received Roman Catholic baptisms; documents show that many children at the orphanage were baptized. The AP also incorrectly reported that Catholic teaching at the time was to deny baptism and Christian burial to the children of unwed mothers; although that may have occurred in practice at times it was not church teaching. In addition, in the June 3 story, the AP quoted a researcher who said she believed that most of the remains of children who died there were interred in a disused septic tank; the researcher has since clarified that without excavation and forensic analysis it is impossible to know how many sets of remains the tank contains, if any. The June 3 story also contained an incorrect reference to the year that the orphanage opened; it was 1925, not 1926.

Epic fail.

James Taranto – “Don’t judge me” quote

Quote

It’s not that hard to categorize Wendy Davis: She was among the category of “single mothers” who are married to rich dudes.

Heck, if you don’t have to be single to be a single mother, it stands to reason, or whatever Mundy is substituting for it, that you don’t have to be a mother either. That would make your humble columnist a single mother. So don’t judge us.
